The 9th Annual Harry Hammond Invitational took place at Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester, PA on Friday, August 6, 2010. The tournament is named for PGA Master Professional and Penn Oaks GC Director of Golf, Mr. Harry Hammond, Jr. Players competed on the par 71 ~ 6,629/5,807 yards long golf course in a highly competitive field. Invites are extended to juniors ages 16-18 who have placed either 1st or 2nd at a Philadelphia Junior Tour event in the past two years.
Scholarships are awarded to the top three boys and girls participating in the Harry Hammond Invitational, and are funded by the Greater Horsham Valley Junior Golf Foundation, a subsidiary of Horsham Charities. This year $3,000 in scholarships were awarded to the boys and girls who finished in the top three in each division. Juniors will receive their scholarship money as they enter their first year of post high school education.
“We really need to thank the Greater Horsham Valley Junior Golf Foundation”, says Hammond. “This tournament was established to help grow the game of golf and it is through their support that we are able to provide scholarships to such deserving young men and women.”
Ties for first and third place in the Boys 16-18 Division required two sudden death playoffs. Zachary Pogust (Plymouth Meeting, PA) and Tucker Koch (Malvern, PA) tied for first place at 1-over-par 72. With pars on the first playoff hole, Koch and Pogust went to a second hole. Koch’s second tee shot went out of bounds and gave Pogust the chance to make a move. Pogust was able to win the playoff by one stroke, earning him first place.
Tied at 73 (+2) for third were Austin List (Haverford, PA) and Oliver White (Lower Gwynedd, PA). In the playoff, both players parred the first hole and proceeded to the second hole. White hit his tee shot in the bunker and was forced to lay up, giving List an opportunity to win with a par. List ended up making his par putt to claim third place in the division.
Jordan Glatt (Doylestown, PA) claimed first place in the Girls 16-18 Division with a 7-over-par 78. Glatt birdied the par 5 13th hole, and won by a margin of two strokes over second place finisher Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Twp., PA). Ceresko posted an 80 (+9), while Jackie Calamaro’s (Newtown Square, PA) score of 82 (+11) gave her third in the division.
