Overcast skies provided a bit of relief from the heat as 54 players made the trek around The Club at Morgan Hill (Easton, PA) on Friday, July 23, 2010. The par 71 ~ 6,322/5,934/5,166 yards long golf course was a great challenge of championship golf for the Philadelphia Junior Tour players.
Raleigh Chapin (Doylestown, PA) and Mike Merana (New Hope, PA) tied for first place in the Boys 16-18 Division with 74 (+3). In the scorecard playoff, the competition came down to the last hole, with Chapin narrowly beating out Merana with a par on the 18th. Geordie Lukas (Chester Springs, PA) took third place in the division with a 5-over-par 76.
In the Boys 13-15 Division, Jalen Griffin (Ambler, PA) posted a 79 (+8) to take home first place honors. Griffin’s only birdie of the round came at the par 4 11th hole, and placed him above Joseph Markmann (Doylestown, PA) and Sam Soeth (Newtown Square, PA) who both tied for second place at 80 (+9).
The Edelblut sisters Kellie and Katherine (New Hope, PA) battled it out for first and second place in the Girls 13-18 Division. Although Katherine birdied the par 4 11th hole to shoot 82 (+11), Kellie made consistent pars and pulled out the win with a 79 (+8). Tied for third place were Francesca Ruscio (Jamison, PA) and Lacey Bensing (Ephrata, PA) at 87 (+16).
Even with a triple and a double bogey on the last two holes, R. J. Wren (Morgantown, PA) was able to claim first place honors in the 9 Hole Division (Boys & Girls 10-12). Wren’s 7-over-par 42 beat second place finisher Franca Hurtado’s (Macungie, PA) 9-over-par 44. Following in third place was William Mirams (Stroudsburg, PA) at 47 (+12).
